Earlier story:
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 41-year-old Sebastian man was killed after being ejected from his vehicle in a wreck that blocked 58th Avenue in both directions Saturday, according to Florida Highway Patrol and Indian River County Fire Rescue.
The collision involving a Chevrolet Suburban and a BMW happened about 3:45 p.m. near 49th Street and 58th Avenue, authorities said. Troopers said a 74-year-old Port St. Lucie woman was driving the eastbound BMW when she ran a stop sign at 58th Avenue.
The BMW struck the left front of the northbound Chevy, driven by the Sebastian man. The impact caused the Chevy to roll over several times, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Roger Dion said.
The Sebastian man was pronounced dead at the scene, highway troopers said. The BMW driver was not hurt and refused treatment.
Highway troopers are no longer identifying crash victims because of privacy reasons. Troopers said the man was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck.
The crash blocked north and southbound lanes on 58th Avenue. The lanes were still closed into the evening, highway troopers said.
The cause of the deadly wreck remains under investigation.
