Georgia Maria Clay Brown, 100, Indian River Estates

December 30, 1921 – February 3, 2021

Georgia Clay Brown was born in South Bend, Indiana, December 30, 1921 and died February 3, 2021. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was married to Robert Clay for 50 years and he died in Georgia, has three sons, Robert and his wife, Carol Clay from Jackson, New York; David Clay who died in 2019, and James and his wife, Anna Clay from Quitman, Texas. She has five granddaughters, one grandson and seven great grandchildren. She later married, Clarence Brown of Vero Beach, Florida has three stepchildren, Calvin Brown, Roslyn Evans and Judith Beal from Florida. Georgia spent many years living in Connecticut raising her boys. She taught in the educational department of Trinity United Methodist Church in New Britain, Connecticut for over 25 years where she served on the board and later became a trustee. She also served on the board of the YWCA of New Britain, Connecticut. After moving to Florida, she served on the Board Community Chest, Federation of Women’s Club and Garden Club. Georgia was an avid reader and often gave book reviews to her Book Club. She was a volunteer instructor in crafts and had taught at the VA, Women’s Club and social groups. She especially loved knitting and macramé and created many beautiful and intricate necklaces that she shared with friends and family. Georgia loved knitting hats for cancer patients and hospice, and lap blankets for nursing home residents. She amazingly was still knitting hats and reading till last December. She was a golfer and belonged to Pattonwood Country Club in Connecticut, Citrus Hills, Homossa, Vero Beach Country Club in Florida.

She was a former member of the Community Church in Vero Beach and later attended services at Indian River Estates where she resided for 18 years. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Georgia to the hospice of your choice.

Anthony B. Arcuri Sr., 78, of Utica, NY and Sebastian

May 25, 1942 – February 4, 2021

Mr. Anthony B. Arcuri Sr, 78 of Utica, NY and Sebastian, FL passed away on Thursday February 4, 2021 at Sebastian River Medical Center in Sebastian, FL with his loving wife by his side. Tony was born in Utica on May 25, 1942 the son of Bruno and Mary (Cavaretta) Arcuri. He was raised in Utica and was a graduate of Thomas R. Proctor High School. On September 28, 1963 Anthony married Jacqueline C. Freeman, a devoted union of 57 years. At one time Tony was a carpet and linoleum installer for several businesses in the Central NY area. He also had an amazing talent of guitar playing and was a local entertainer/singer for many years. Later he pursued a career with the New York State Department of Corrections, a job he truly loved. He retired in 2000. Mr. Arcuri is survived by his wife Jacqueline, his son Anthony B. Arcuri II and daughter Michele Arcuri-Lewis both of Florida. Two cherished grandchildren, Clorinda Creo and Anthony Lewis, one brother, Salvatore Arcuri of Sebastian, FL; two sisters, Carol Ann (Peter) Arcuri of Syracuse and Mary Jane (Angelo) Faga of Albany, two sisters-in-law; Jenny Stabile of CA, Eileen Arcuri of Ilion, and Carole Freeman of Deansboro. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and close friends including Tom Borgia and Jim Amuso with whom he shared lifelong friendships. He was preceded by his brothers; Albert Stabile and Fred Arcuri, sisters; Teresa Carvelli and Rose Foglietta, brothers-in-law, Antonio Foglietta, Floyd Carvelli, Gerald Freeman and Eugene Freeman and his son-in-law, James Eric Lewis.

Mr. Arcuri’s wishes were to be cremated. A private family service will take place later this year. Arrangements are entrusted to Strunk Funeral Home, 1623 North Central Avenue, Sebastian, Florida 32958.

Dixie M. Cavanaugh, 92, of Vero Beach

October 31, 1928 – January 29, 2021

Dixie M. Cavanaugh, 92, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away Friday, January 29th with her family by her side.

She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Millard and Pearl McWhorter on October 31, 1928.  She graduated from Ensley Highschool in 1947 and started working for New York Life.  She married Frank Cavanaugh from Decatur, Illinois, in 1953 and moved to the state of Florida early in their marriage to raise a family.

Dixie is survived by her daughter, Lyn (Marty) Miller of Cary, Illinois; her son in law, David Trudnak of Naples, Florida; her four grandchildren, Zachary Trudnak, of Vero Beach, Florida; and Jourdon, Dominic, and Drew Miller of Cary, Illinois.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and daughter, Kimberly Trudnak.

When Dixie was not traveling the United States and Canada in her motorhome with her husband, she was entertaining friends and family at her home in Vero Beach.  She loved to travel, was an avid reader and Scrabble player, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  Dixie had a long list of friends and family who she kept in close contact with.  She was a lovely wife, mother, and grandmother with so much joy in her heart and a kind word for everyone.  She will be truly missed.

James Richard Beaven, 74, Sebastian

September 09, 1946 – February 04, 2021

James Richard Beaven, Jim, passed away at the Sebastian, Florida Medical Center on February 4, 2021 with his family by his side.

Jim was born in Easton, Maryland to the late George and Anna Lee Beaven on September 9, 1946. He was raised in Queen Anne, Maryland and graduated from Centreville High School in 1964. He worked with his father in the family business, and after his father’s death he ran the business until moving to Virginia Beach in the early 1970s. After a vacation in Florida, Jim fell in love with South Florida and moved there in the mid-1970s, eventually settling in Fort Lauderdale. There he met the love of his life, Debbie. They were married in August 1980. They retired to Sebastian, Florida in 2013.

Jim was an avid fisherman and won many trophies and awards for his bill fishing prowess.

Jim is survived by his wife Debbie and his brother George (Linda) of Woodbridge, Virginia. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Bob, and his sister-in-law, Mickie (Danny), 11 nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Charlie Brown.

A memorial service will be held at Seawinds Funeral Home, 735 S. Fleming Street, Sebastian Florida 32958 at 4:00 pm on Thursday February 11. Because of COVID restrictions, attendance will be limited to 50 people. The family asks that if you would like to attend to please leave a text message or voice mail at (954) 317-8276.
