Citrus, bluegrass and outdoor fun planned Jan. 30 at Indian River Citrus Festival

Countryside Family Farms is celebrating National Citrus Month and our incredible Indian River Citrus! Join us at the Farm on Saturday, January 30th for the first annual Indian River Citrus Festival, as we honor the crop that put Indian River on the map.

Bring your lawn chairs or blanket and tap your toes to the bluegrass beats of the Blue Cypress Bluegrass, a crowd favorite at the Groovin’ in the Grove Music Festival in 2019. Discover more about local history with the Indian River Citrus Museum, plus learn about the history of Indian River Citrus and what makes it so special with a history lesson from our own Head of the Farm, Sid Banack and special guest Dan Richey. The fun also includes longtime local Chef Timm McGraw of El Sid’s Taqueria on Ocean Drive giving a demonstration on how to incorporate citrus into your recipes.

Miss Florida Citrus, Leila Sabet, will make a visit during the day, so be sure to have your camera ready! Family-friendly farm activities will be open for all to enjoy, including the jump pillow, mower-go-round, kiddie train, rat rollers, barnyard ball games, lasso the horse, air cannon, and nature trail. In addition, the hayride is back and will feature all-new fun and educational information while you enjoy the ride.

Be sure to bring your appetite, because aside from samples of fresh orange and grapefruit juice, there will be plenty of good eats available, including El Sid tacos, kettle corn, and such Dog House favorites as the Plain Mutt, German Shepherd, and Dog Fight – delicious variations on our all beef quarter pound hot dogs. And remember, all our dogs have chips! Cool off with refreshing snowballs, slushies, and ice cream. In addition to the always-popular vanilla, some specialty ice cream flavors will be available, such as orange, grapefruit and strawberry- mmmm.

If our U-Pick-’Em Strawberry Patch is open, and Mother Nature permitting, you’ll be able to enjoy strawberry picking with your family, as well!

All fun stations will be stocked with sanitizer and will be cleaned regularly to help keep everyone safe. Social distancing is easy to do on our 20 acres, but masks are encouraged when doing activities that are close to others. Let’s all have fun and be safe in the great outdoors!
