ELC to cohost “A Sense of Place” national workshop

Vero Beach, Fla. — The Environmental Learning Center (ELC) is cohosting a workshop with nature centers across the country to explore what it means to be connected to a place. Four nature centers around the U.S. will host readings, lead discussions and join in on stories of how we’re all connected to the land we call home.

The four nature centers participating in this workshop are:

Montana Audubon Center in Billings Montana

The Wilderness Center in Wilmot, Ohio

The Environmental Learning Center in Vero Beach, Florida

Pajarito Environmental Education Center in Los Alamos, New Mexico

The term sense of place has been used to describe how people think and feel about the surroundings in which they live or frequent. Thoughts and feelings about a place may be happy and exciting which allow us to establish a strong attachment to our surroundings. Other places may trigger feelings of anxiety or fear due to previous negative experiences.

This workshop will inspire viewers to think about how they are connected with the land they call home, and what makes it special and unique. Join this workshop to discover what it means to have a sense of place as we learn about ecosystems around the country through curated readings, lively discussions, and by sharing stories about the land we call home.

These nature centers will discuss our connection with the land, learn about different ecosystems and share our own experiences. This event will consist of readings in natural history that are provided before each of the five virtual meetings. Participants are encouraged to read and engage in the conversation.

Event dates in 2021:
