JoAnn McCool, 87, Vero Beach

JoAnn (Mead) McCool passed away on Dec. 7, 2020, at the age of 87 in Vero Beach, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. JoAnn was born in Jamestown, New York, on April 14, 1933, to Thomas K. and Geraldine (Tatro) Mead. On April 25, 1953, she married her childhood friend, Bill McCool. JoAnn and Bill remained devoted to each other for the next 67 years.

Bill’s military assignments took them to California, North Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Hawaii, and Washington, D.C. After returning to Jamestown in 1974, JoAnn stayed busy raising their children and volunteering in the community.

JoAnn was a Welcome Wagon Lady, an active member of Newcomers’ Club, and very involved at Jamestown General Hospital where she was the Gift Shop Manager. JoAnn and Bill were ushers at the Palace Theater in Jamestown and Dodgertown in Vero Beach. They also attended many Marine Corps Conventions and Irish-themed cruises with friends. JoAnn enjoyed her regular lunches with “the ladies” in Jamestown, friends since grade school. Throughout her life, JoAnn excelled at hosting parties and many family celebrations.

JoAnn was preceded in death by both parents and her brother, Arthur Mead. She is survived by her husband, her children William Glenn McCool III (Kristin); Robyn McCool Schultz (Larry); and grandchildren Evan McCool, Alexa McCool, Connor Schultz, and Caleb Schultz.

JoAnn leaves behind many friends in Jamestown, New York, and Vero Beach, Florida (Vista Plantation, Kenwood Village, The Brennity at Vero Beach).

JoAnn will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Jamestown, New York. The family will arrange a celebration of her life at a later date.
