Frederick William “Fred” Renninger, Jr., 80, Vero Beach

Frederick William “Fred” Renninger, Jr., 80, of Vero Beach, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020. He was born March 9, 1940, in Lewistown, Pa., to parents, Frederick William and Marguerite May Rowe Renninger, Sr.

Fred was a United States Navy veteran.

He had been a resident of Vero Beach since 1984, coming from Key Largo, Fla.

Fred had worked as a Banker in the banking industry.

He had a love of trains, both large and small.

Fred is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann Short Renninger; son, Michael (Dawn) Renninger; daughters, Catherine Renninger and Karen Renninger; and grandchildren, Samantha and Christine.

Due to Covid, at the request of the family, no services will be held.  Interment will be at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, Fla.

Jack Wade Hurd, 90, Vero Beach

Jack Wade Hurd, age 90, passed away peacefully on Nov. 16, 2020 of natural causes in Vero Beach. He was born in East Stone Gap, Va., on May 6, 1930.

After high school, he enlisted in the Army and fought in the Korean War. He was a Sergeant First Class and platoon sergeant during the war and earned the Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman Badge.

After returning from the war, he utilized the GI Bill to attend Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) where he earned an engineering degree. After college, he devoted a large majority of his career to government service as a civilian in support of both Naval and Army operations and logistical projects while living in Northern VA.

Upon retirement, he moved to Vero Beach. He was highly active with the Elks organization in Northern VA and Vero Beach serving in several leadership positions for both local chapters. He enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and abroad. And he also devoted countless hours of volunteer time at local hospitals in the communities where he lived.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Bess (Tate) Hurd; his first wife, Joan Dickenson Hurd; his second wife, Margaret Logue Hurd; his sister, Anne Hurd Hunter; his niece, Nancy Toney; and his great niece, Kelly Toney.

Surviving him are his sister, Betty Hurd Cline; his sons, Mark Hurd and wife Claudia of Triangle, VA and Eric Hurd and wife Pamela of Lewisville, NC; his seven grandchildren: Travis Hurd (Nikki), Stephen Hurd (Christie), Jessica Hurd, Taylor Hurd, Brandon Hurd (Anna), Ryan Hurd, Justin Hurd; his five great grandchildren: Grayson Hurd, Caroline Hurd, Samantha Hurd, Hayden Hurd, Ariana Hurd; his niece, Jane Higgins and husband George of Lexington, KY; his nephew, Gary Cline and wife Connie of Lafayette, CO; and his great nephew, Adam Toney and wife Miranda.

Due to current safety and health concerns because of COVID-19, a memorial service will be held on a future date to be announced in Big Stone Gap, VA.

The family welcomes donations to VNA of Treasure Coast (1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960) as an expression of sympathy instead of flowers.
