Motorcyclist hurt after hit-and-run crash

VERO BEACH — Police are searching for a black sports utility vehicle they said drove from a hit-and-run crash that injured a motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce as a precaution, police said. The motorcycle driver, who had non-life threatening injuries, was released from the hospital late Saturday, Vero Beach police spokesman Master Officer Darrell Rivers said.

The wreck involving the motorcycle and a black Toyota happened at 5:47 p.m. in the 1800 block of U.S. 1, not far from Sonic Drive-In restaurant, police and Florida Highway Patrol officials said. Police closed U.S. 1 in the immediate area for about two hours as they investigated the wreck, Rivers said.

The motorcycle driver’s gender, age and town of residence were not immediately known. Further details on the black Toyota were not available.

Police continue to investigate the collision. No further details were immediately available.
