INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 29-year-old woman who deputies said fired two gunshots in the air during an argument, was jailed late Thursday.
A woman told deputies she saw Shaquana Isabel West “cock the gun and shoot into the air,” reports show. The woman said she was in fear for her life.
Deputies arrested West, of the 2500 block of Langrove Lane Southwest, Vero Beach, on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm in public and battery. West was released Friday from the Indian River County Jail on $4,500 bond.
Indian River County deputies responded to reports of shots fired about 8 p.m. Thursday in the 2500 block of Langrove Lane Southwest at the Bradford Place Apartments. The complex is located off Oslo Road, east of 27th Avenue Southwest.
Deputies stopped a maroon Toyota Camry that was seen leaving the area.
The driver, identified as West, told deputies she was involved in a fight earlier with the father of her child. The father said West struck him in the face, reports show.
West said she also argued with a woman before pulling out a gun and firing shots into the air, reports show. It was unclear what the argument was about.
The woman ran inside her family’s home, deputies said.
Deputies at the apartment complex found two silver 9mm shell casings in the roadway, reports show. Deputies spoke with three witnesses – including West’s 9-year-old son – who all said West fired the gunshots, officials said.
Deputies seized the firearm from West’s vehicle.
Deputies arrested West and took her to the county jail. West has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. Dec. 4, court records show.
