More than 90 students were placed on two-week quarantines within the past six days after more COVID-19 cases were reported at seven schools.
School officials placed 93 students and four staff members on self-quarantine and ordered them to monitor their symptoms, according to the School District of Indian River County. There have been 35 virus cases total reported at traditional campuses and 38 overall at Indian River County schools.
To date, nearly 600 students have been placed on two-week quarantines since the start of the school year. The latest cases were reported at Vero Beach High School, Indian River Academy, Vero Beach Elementary School, Sebastian River High School, Fellsmere Elementary School, Rosewood Magnet School and Oslo Middle School.
The cases were reported from Oct. 20 through Oct. 23, and Sunday, school officials said. Florida Department of Health conducted contact tracing to identify which students or staff members had close contact with the individuals with positive tests.
Those with positive tests were also ordered to quarantine. The students will continue school through virtual learning, officials said.
Families and staff members at each school were notified of the cases. Custodial services continue to disinfect and sanitize the campuses to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
