Vero Beach breaks daily heat record Sunday

VERO BEACH — The city broke its first daily heat record Sunday for the month as the state transitions to its dry season, weather officials said.

The temperatures in Vero Beach rose to 92 degrees Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne. Sunday’s hot weather beat the previous record high of 91 degrees set in 2009, forecasters said.

Meteorologist Tony Cristaldi said the warm weather was slightly above normal for Florida. Wet season for the state typically runs from late May to late October, while dry season runs from late October to late May, Cristaldi said.
