Oslo Middle School student tests positive for virus; others to quarantine

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Another Oslo Middle School student has tested positive for COVID-19, prompting school officials to place 11 other students on a two-week quarantine Wednesday, authorities said.

This is the second COVID-19 case reported at Oslo Middle School this week. On Tuesday, officials learned another student tested positive for the virus, leading authorities to instruct 19 students to stay at home and monitor their symptoms.

In the latest case, the Florida Department of Health identified 11 students who came in contact with the pupil who tested positive, the School District of Indian River County said in a statement. School officials called the families of the students and notified them the children need to quarantine and monitor their symptoms, officials said.

All Oslo Middle School families and staff members were also notified of the incident. The student who tested positive will also need to stay home.

The students will continue their education through virtual learning, officials said. Custodial services continue to disinfect and sanitize all areas of the campus.

This is the ninth incident involving Indian River County schools where students were told to quarantine after COVID-19 cases were reported on campus. Indian River County had a cumulative amount of 2,930 COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday, including 104 deaths, according to the Florida Department of Health.
