Woman found dead in car; deputies investigating

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Deputies are investigating after the body of an unidentified woman was found in the back seat of a vehicle in a store parking lot Wednesday afternoon.

“It’s too early to determine if foul play is suspected,” Indian River County sheriff’s spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said. An autopsy was expected to be performed.

An employee at Harbor Freight Tools hardware store called authorities about 5:30 p.m. after discovering the woman unresponsive in a grey Kia, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Roger Dion said. The store is located in Ryanwood Square shopping center near 58th Avenue and State Road 60.

The middle-aged woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Dion said. Indian River County sheriff’s crime unit searched the area for any evidence.

It was unclear if the car was processed into evidence. Flowers said the woman’s name will be released once next of kin is notified.

More details were expected to be released Thursday.

No further information was available.
