Indian River County deputies responded to reports of the shooting shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday in the 4700 block of 33rd Avenue. Campbell fired shots from a handgun at the ground in front of a rooming home after an altercation between him and the mother of his child, Indian River County sheriff’s spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said.
It was unclear if Campbell and the woman lived at the rooming home. Flowers said deputies arrested Campbell at the scene.
Several sheriff’s patrol vehicles could be seen at the home earlier on the corner, not far from Glorious Church of Jesus Christ. Yellow crime scene tape roped off the entire property.
Deputies recovered the handgun, which they confirmed was stolen, Flowers said. Detectives also spotted several shell casings on the ground in front of the residence.
Flowers said several residents were in the rooming house when the shooting occurred. Deputies spoke with witnesses and gathered evidence.
A sheriff’s crime scene van arrived at the scene about 1 p.m. Crime scene evidence markers were placed on the ground in front of the home.
Deputies booked Campbell in to the Indian River County Jail.
