Bicyclist critical after Friday morning crash

VERO BEACH — A 54-year-old Palm Bay bicyclist suffered critical injuries in an early Friday crash, authorities said.

The crash, involving the bicycle and a pickup truck, happened about 8:20 a.m. Friday in the 1900 block of South Highway A1A, officials said. The unidentified bicyclist, a man, went into cardiac arrest and was taken by ambulance to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Kyle Kofke said.

The pickup driver, a 44-year-old man from Fort Pierce, was not hurt, Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Yanko Reyes said.

Troopers will investigate the cause of the wreck. No further details were available.

2 seriously hurt in multi-vehicle crash on U.S. 1

GIFFORD — Two people suffered severe injuries following a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 1 that left a person trapped inside an automobile, sheriff's deputies said. Indian River County Fire Rescue crews used rescue machinery to free the individual from the wreckage, said Sgt. Kevin Jaworski, a spokesperson for the Indian River County Sheriff's Office. The wreck involving a silver van, Subaru Outback and an unknown third vehicle, happened about 11 a.m. Monday in the 4500 block of U.S. 1, east of Old Dixie Highway in Gifford.
