Indian River Charter High postpones graduation amid virus concerns

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — In an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, Indian River Charter High School has postponed its graduation date for the 2020 senior class.

The graduation date for the charter high school was pushed back to 10 a.m. June 27. The school made the announcement Thursday in a Facebook post.

The decision comes nearly two weeks after the School District of Indian River County postponed graduation dates for Sebastian River High School and Vero Beach High School. Those campuses are the only two public high schools in the county.

The graduation ceremony for Sebastian River high was postponed to June 13. The graduation ceremony for Vero Beach high was pushed back to June 12.

All schools in the state of Florida were expected to remain closed through May 1 amid public health concerns caused by the coronavirus, or COVID-19. School officials are continuing to educate students virtually using online lessons.
