Dale Wayne Gates, 87, Vero Beach

Dale Wayne Gates, 87, of Vero Beach, passed away March 6, 2020. Born Aug. 6, 1932, in Newton, Kan., he was the son of the late Lloyd Lewey Gates and Frances Lorena Lewis Gates.

Mr. Gates was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a Mason.

He enjoyed boating, singing country, folk & gospel songs, and watching western movies.

Dale was a career soldier, retiring after 26 years of service with the rank of Command Sergeant Major. Though a lifelong tanker, he was Airborne qualified and served with armor battalions in the 11th Airborne Division and 101st Airborne Division early in his career.

Additionally, he served in aviation units in Fort Hood and Vietnam. In addition to his military service, Dale worked for Boeing Aircraft building B-52 bombers and at Glenn L. Martin Company constructing missiles.

After his military retirement, Dale owned Dino’s Pizza Restaurant in Belle Glade, Fla., finally taking up residence in the Florida Keys on a 46-foot trawler with his wife, Joy, after her retirement from the Palm Beach County School District.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Margaret Joy Clark Gates; daughters, Vicki Bryant, and Sherri Johnson (Richard); son, Gaylin Gates (Gloria); four grandchildren, Shawna Pinson, Lilly Curley, Loren Magnuson and Nicholas Bryant; three great-grandchildren, Leigha, Caleb and Declan Pinson; and many other loving family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by five siblings, Cleo Homer Gates, Leatha Spearman, Ella Kite, Nola Opal Head and Bertha Lacey.

Memorial Services will be held Monday, March 16, 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Vero Beach, followed by interment in Cape Canaveral National Cemetery at 2 p.m. with military honors.

Cindy Marie Miller, 56, Sebastian

Cindy Marie Miller, 56, of Sebastian, died peacefully in Hospice of Vero Beach on Friday March 6, 2020. Cindy was born on April 9, 1963, in Moore Haven, Fla., to Ernest Allan Greene and Wanda Lee Killebrew.

She married her loving husband, Robert Todd Miller, in 1991. The couple had three children. Her children remember her as a kind, gentle, driven mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals and dreams.

Cindy was dedicated to helping others and often helped anyone with anything they needed. She was a generous, witty, and dedicated individual who loved thrifting and who was passionate about photography.

After moving to Sebastian, Cindy began working for Windsor as a Nanny.

Cindy is survived by husband, Robert Todd Miller; children, Ashley Lynn Miller, of Sebastian, Meagan Danielle Miller, of Tampa, Fla., and Cassandra Marie Miller, of Sebastian; siblings, Ernest Allen Green Jr., of Louisiana, Daniel Casey Greene, of Lake City, Fla., and Sherry Peters, of Lake City, Fla.

She is preceded in death by her mom, Wanda Lee Killebrew, of Sebastian; and her father, Earnest Allan Greene, of Lake City, Fla.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for March 14, at Noon at Seawinds Funeral Home, with a reception to follow at the Sebastian Inlet South, 1900 S. A1A. Jeri Wilson will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Cindy’s life.
