Man seriously hurt after being shot in pelvis area

GIFFORD — A man was seriously hurt after being shot in the pelvis area late Friday, officials said.

Indian River County deputies were combing for evidence where the shooting took place at 47th Street and 40th Avenue. Several patrol vehicles were parked outside of a home.

One man with a gunshot wound was flown to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce with serious injuries, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Kyle Kofke said. An update on the man’s condition was not immediately available.

Crime scene tape flapped in the wind as detectives took notes and pictures near the driveway of a residence. Four patrol vehicles and a sheriff’s crime scene van were still in the area shortly before 8 p.m.

Indian River County sheriff’s spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers was not immediately available for comment. No further details were available.
