INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A man wanted for a variety of previous offenses – including his involvement in a drug deal shooting – was found by deputies Thursday hiding in a shed in south county, officials said.
Deputies said Emanuel Christopher McKenzie has been wanted since April 2018 for violation of probation in regards to aggravated battery. The case involved McKenzie shooting a person during a drug deal, deputies said.
Thursday, deputies found McKenzie, who has been on the run from law enforcement for the past two years, in the 1000 block of 10th Court Southwest. The sheriff’s task force, K-9 deputy Ruckus and a sheriff’s helicopter tracked McKenzie in the shed.
When deputies issued a K-9 deployment warning, McKenzie came out of the white shed with his hands up in the air. Helicopter footage released Friday by deputies shows McKenzie lie on the ground while being surrounded by several law enforcement officers with the U.S. Marshall Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force.
McKenzie was arrested on a variety of charges – some being warrants – that include fleeing and eluding a police officer, violation of probation, possession of fentanyl, possession of cocaine, resisting arrest without violence and reckless driving.
McKenzie has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. April 3, court records show. Further details on the drug deal shooting were not immediately available.
