William Wayne Bayliff, 75, Vero Beach

William “Bill” Wayne Bayliff, 75, of Vero Beach, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 1, 2020. Bill was born on March 7, 1944, in Johnson City, N.Y.

Bill was an Air Force Veteran. He was the owner of Bayliff’s Pub in Endicott, N.Y., for several years in the 1970s and later retired from IBM.

He was an active member of the Elks Lodge and one of the founders of the Johnson City Elks, serving as Secretary, Exalted Ruler, Past District Deputy, and State Vice President as well as publisher of Johnson City’s newsletter.

Bill loved spending time with his family and friends, always with a great story to share, exuding with his charming wit and contagious laugh.

When not with Bonnie, you could usually find him on the golf course, trying to improve his swing. There was no kinder or more generous son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, or friend and he will be grievously missed.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years and absolute love of his life, Bonnie Cooper Bayliff; three children, William (Jackie) Bayliff, Brian (Jennifer) Bayliff,and Lori (John) Lucas; grandchildren, Madison, Chelsea, Kaitlin, Hannah, Jacob, and Joshua; his sister, Linda; and brother-in-law, Gary Koliander; in-laws, Joyce (Steve) Green, Joan Wolcott, Vera Conner, David (Sally) Cooper; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Beatrice Bayliff.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Johnson City Elks Lodge #2821 in Bill’s memory.

 

Robert Earl Deniger, 89, Vero Beach,

Robert Earl Deniger, 89, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully Jan. 5, 2020, at the VNA Hospice House with his family by his side. Born July 24, 1930, in Detroit, Mich., he was the son of Joseph and Mary (Dasey) Deniger.

Bob graduated from Redford High School in Detroit and enlisted in the US Navy during the Korean War serving in a squadron with the first Navy jet fighter planes.

For many years he worked as a lithographer in the printing industry in Providence, R.I, and Manchester, N.H.

In 1988, he and his wife, Pat, retired to Sebastian, where they lived at Reflections on the River. Bob enjoyed life to the fullest SCUBA diving, sailing, biking, traveling, singing, dancing and reading.

He is survived by two children, Kristen Bean (husband, Kevin), of Ft. Lauderdale, and Mark Deniger (wife, Pamela) Whitmire, of Anderson, S.C.; three grandsons, Joshua, Kyle and Cory; three great-grandsons; and a great-granddaughter; his long-time significant other and companion, Melody Gabriel; his sister, Blanche Graham, of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews

He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia (nee Rouse), of 55 years.

A celebration of life will be held at the Vero Beach Elks Lodge at a later date.

Burial will be at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, N.H., this summer.

Barton Dean Urbauer, MD, 82, Vero Beach

Barton “Bart” Dean Urbauer, MD, 82, formerly of Grand Island, Neb., passed away at his home in Vero Beach, Tuesday evening, Dec. 31, 2019.

He graduated from Hastings High School in 1955 and received his BS from Hastings College in 1959, both in Hastings, Neb. While in college he was a member of the U.S. Marine Reserves. Bart attended the University of Nebraska Medical School in Omaha graduating with his MD in 1962 where he was a member of the Phi Chi Fraternity. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Army Medical Corp as a First Lieutenant medical officer. He spent a total of 5 1/2 years in the United States Army including an internship year at William Beaumont Army Hospital in El Paso, Texas, a year at Ft Bragg, N.C., in 5th Special Forces, a year in Vietnam (1964-65) as a medical officer in Special Forces Vietnam, another year at Ft. Bragg in the Special Forces Training Group, and a final year in Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., Medical Corp.

He received his Parachute Badge, Air Medal, Combat Medical Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Medal and Army Commendation Medal.

After leaving the Army as a Major, he, his wife and family moved to Grand Island, Neb., where he joined the Grand Island Clinic. He practiced Family Medicine there for the next 35 years, retiring on Dec. 31, 1999, exactly 20 years prior to his death.

Bart was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Island. He enjoyed learning the Bethel Bible Study leadership course and teaching the Bethel Bible course.

He was a member of the Hall County Medical Society, the VFW, the American Legion as well as the Riverside Golf Club where he loved to play golf.

He cherished the 40 years of summers he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends at Johnson Lake in Elwood, Neb.

After retiring, the Urbauers became snowbirds spending the winter months in Vero Beach. Bart was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach, the Mustang Club, and a former member of Grand Harbor Golf Club.

He and his wife made The Isles of Waterway Village in Vero Beach their permanent home in 2015.

Bart will be remembered for his kind and gentle nature, the twinkle in his eye and his dry sense of humor, his patriotism and his deep faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Everyone who met him, loved “Papa Bart.”

He is survived by his high school sweetheart, Arladeane “Arly” Mae Johnson Urbauer, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage on Dec. 22, 2019; daughters, Angela Bauknecht (husband, Garth), of Marietta, Ga., Rebecca Hodos (husband, Alex), of Parkville, Mo., and Kimberly Urbauer, of Leeds, England; son, Matthew Urbauer, of Grand Island, Neb.; grandchildren, Caroline Bauknecht Lee, Barton Bauknecht, Josh Hodos, Frankie, Katherine, Mark, Lakota, and Sawnee Urbauer and Sophia Smith; sister-in-law, Donna Johnson Grothen; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Grace (nee Welch) Urbauer; his wife’s parents, Edmond “Bud” and Esteleen (nee Kauffman) Johnson; brothers-in-law, Edmond Johnson and Donald Johnson; and granddaughter, Cheyenne Urbauer.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at the First Presbyterian Church, 520 Royal Palm Blvd., with Dr. Tim Womack officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in the E.T. Smith lounge of the church.

The family would like to express their thanks for the wonderful help and care given during his 25-year courageous battle with heart disease, most recently by VNA hospice as well as the doctors and staff of the St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, and the Cleveland Clinic/Indian River Hospital in Vero Beach.
