It was a double celebration in December for members of the Democratic Women’s Club of Indian River County. The annual holiday luncheon held at Grand Harbor also featured the installation of new officers for 2020-21.
“I’d like to ask everyone of you to become involved,” incoming president Silvia Cancio told the group. “Any organization is as good as its members.”
Democratic Women’s Club of Florida president Patty Farley conducted the installation. The new officers are Cancio, president; Bonnie Ollinger, first vice president; Pat O’Hara, second vice president; Barb Spelman, treasurer; Ginny Smith, recording secretary; Claudette Pelletier, corresponding secretary; Linda Levine, Democratic Executive Committee liaison; and Lanie Frame, immediate past president.
The Democratic Women’s Club of Florida was incorporated in the 1950s, Farley said. Of the 57 active clubs in the state, the Indian River County organization is the largest.
“Women in the party are the work horses of the party,” Farley added. “We put the food on the table and now we have a seat at the table, and we’re not giving it up.”
