Richard J. Cory, Vero Beach

Richard J. Cory, of Vero Beach, passed away Dec. 24, 2019.

A WWII veteran in the U.S. Navy, Richard went on to graduate from the Univ. of Miami Law School and his law career spanned 52 years representing Lloyd’s of London, CSX Railroad and Union Carbide as local and trial counsel.

His public offices included City Attorney for Lauderdale-By-The Sea for 20 years; Fort Lauderdale Municipal Court Judge and U.S. Magistrate for Southern District of Florida. He practiced in all state courts, U.S. and District Courts of Appeal and Supreme Courts of Florida and United States. He also represented the Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority in restructuring the downtown area.

Richard branched out to many business interests including office buildings, oceanfront properties, and numerous shopping centers in Florida and North Carolina.

He was Commodore of Coral Ridge Yacht Club in Fort Lauderdale and belonged to Pine Tree Golf Club, Hawks’ Nest and Pinehurst Golf Club.

In retirement, he and Cynthia traveled extensively to Europe, Canada and other countries.

As Abraham Lincoln said, “In the end, it is not the years in your life that count. It is the life in your years”. We will greatly miss him.

He is survived by his adored wife and life partner, Cynthia; two daughters, Karen and Jan; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

 

Ilse I. Perry, 91, Vero Beach

Ilse I. Perry, 91, passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, at Cleveland Clinic – Indian River Hospital in Vero Beach. She was born in Jena, Germany.

At the family’s request, services and interment are private.

 

Helen S. Tippet, 90, Vero Beach

Helen S. Tippet, 90, died peacefully at her home in Vero Beach on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2019. She was born on April 15, 1929, in Chicago, Ill., to Howard and Lavina Storm.

Helen grew up in LaGrange and Western Springs, Ill., and was a 1947 graduate of Lyons Township High School. While attending Purdue, Helen was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and met the love of her life, James E. Tippet. They were married in Western Springs on June 9, 1951.

Jim’s career led them to Green Bay and Neenah, Wisc., and Greenwich, Ct. In 1994, Helen relocated to Vero Beach, while summering in New Hampshire and Maine.

She was a 70-year member of the PEO sorority and had a great sense of adventure. She loved to travel and Grandma Helen particularly enjoyed getting to take each of her grandchildren on a special trip for their 10th birthday. Helen was the consummate wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Helen is survived by a daughter, Sarah Ruwe, of Vero Beach; two sons, Samuel Tippet, of Sidney, Maine, and Will Tippet (wife, Jennifer) of Winnetka, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her brother and husband.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests those wishing to make donations may do so in Helen’s memory to the James E. Tippet Scholarship at Purdue University (gifts@prf.org or Purdue Foundation, 403 West Wood St, West Lafayette, IN 47906).

Per Helen’s request there will be no service.
