Thieves take lawn, fishing gear from church shed

Thieves broke into a storage shed at Central Assembly of God and made off with more than $1,000 worth of tools, lawn equipment and fishing gear, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

Stolen from the shed were a Huskvarna and a Troybuilt blower worth $200 each, a Cobra air compressor worth $900, a tackle box and five fishing rods and reels.

The Sheriff’s Office was called to the church, located at 6767 20th Street, last Sunday after Pastor Bill McCloud noticed the shed door was open.

Authorities believe the thief or thieves broke in between 1:30 a.m. and 8:50 a.m. An employee at the church had been there late working and did not see or hear anything suspicious, according to the incident report. The employee left the church around 1:30 a.m.

A lack of security cameras and availability of finger prints and other evidence has stymied the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the burglary or stolen items is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at (772) 569-6700 reference case number 2019-00215075.
