The man – identified as Keon Jamal London – told police he would never hurt the woman who was pregnant with his child, reports show. London said he had the Taser in his pocket and did not know how the woman was shocked, officials said.

Police arrested London on a charge of aggravated battery on a pregnant woman. London was held Tuesday at the Indian River County Jail on $25,000 bond.

Vero Beach police responded to a disturbance about 5:30 p.m. Nov. 28 at the Howard Johnson hotel in downtown Vero Beach. Officers spoke with the woman who had cuts on her face and lips and bruising on her chest, reports show.

The woman said she was six months pregnant with London’s second child, though the woman and London were not in a relationship. The two drove from Miami to Vero Beach to visit the woman’s mother, reports show.

The woman said the two were in the hotel room earlier when London began yelling at her and started to act unusual. London then pulled out a small black Taser from his backpack and began to walk toward the woman, reports show.

The woman tried to wrestle the weapon out of London’s hands before London shocked her several times in the chest, police said. London then hit the woman in the head repeatedly.

The woman said London had never put his hands on her in the past. But, she did say London had been drinking all day, reports show.

The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment. Officers recovered the Taser from the hotel room and found London running outside.

Police arrested London and took him to the county jail. London has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. Jan. 3, 2020, court records show.
