Earlier story:

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Two people were seriously hurt – including one that was trapped – following a multi-vehicle crash Sunday that briefly blocked eastbound lanes on State Road 60, officials said.

The wreck – involving a white Nissan Altima and a Lexus sports utility vehicle – happened about 2:30 p.m. Sunday at State Road 60 and 90th Avenue, Indian River County sheriff’s spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said. Fire rescue crews had to cut open one of the vehicles to free a person who was trapped inside, Flowers said.

Two people were taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Flowers said. The crash blocked the eastbound lanes on S.R. 60 in the immediate area.

The Florida Highway Patrol will investigate the cause of the wreck, Flowers said. No further details were immediately available.
