Residents to raise funds for inaugural Lustgarten Walk

Join us for the inaugural Lustgarten Walk – Vero Beach on Saturday, Jan. 18. Come out and capture local residents fight against pancreatic cancer at Riverside Park in Vero Beach.

Pancreatic cancer has a five-year survival rate in the single digits. This year, more than 56,000 cases will be diagnosed, and almost 46,000 people will die from pancreatic cancer in the United States. According to the American Cancer Society, nearly 3,500 Florida residents will die from this disease this year.

Florida has the second highest incidence of pancreatic cancer in the country.

In addition to uniting the community in the spirit of hope, 100 percent of the money raised goes to advancing research aimed at early detection methods, better treatments, and ultimately, a cure for pancreatic cancer. Visit www.lustgarten.org/verobeach to register and learn more.

Walk leader Margaret Kennedy lost her mother and her cousin to pancreatic cancer and was determined to take action in her local community. Margaret volunteered to head up the inaugural Lustgarten Walk—Vero Beach to help raise awareness and funding for this disease. Almost immediately, four additional women and a young man, all of whom have lost a loved one to pancreatic cancer, joined the committee to help lead this inaugural walk.

Margaret, along with Ann Walsh, the Lustgarten Foundation’s Regional Manager, would both be terrific people to speak with and feature.

The event will be held Jan. 18, with registration at 8:30 a.m. and the walk at 9:30 a.m. at Riverside Park, 3280 Riverside Park Dr., Vero Beach.
