Two 16-year-olds were arrested after authorities say they stole a Jeep Cherokee and took it for a ride, ultimately parking it a laundromat.
The teens, a male and a female, are residents at Hibiscus Children’s Center, according to authorities. They told investigators that they left the home with the intent of stealing a car. Before they could swipe a car, though, a corporal and a deputy caught up to them at the Publix located at 1255 US 1 and returned them to the Hibiscus Children’s Center.
The male juvenile then snuck out, again, and found the victim’s vehicle unlocked with the keys inside. He took the car for a ride and left it on a street near the children’s center, according to the arrest report. The teen then told the girl he had a vehicle and they left together, taking the Jeep. They drove to Sunshine Laundromat, where they were later discovered by a deputy.
Both teens were taken into custody without incident. They both face a felony charge of grand theft auto.
Due to their age and non-violent nature of the alleged crime, VeroNews.com is not naming the juveniles.
