VERO BEACH — The city of Vero Beach reached a high of 91 degrees Sunday, breaking the previous Oct. 27 record of 89 degrees set in 2009, weather officials said.
The National Weather Service in Melbourne made the announcement Sunday. Vero Beach broke another daily heat record Oct. 21 when it reached 93 degrees, beating the old record of 89 degrees from 2013, National Weather Service in Melbourne Meteorologist Scott Kelly said.
Kelly said September 2019 was the hottest September on record for the city. Vero Beach had a monthly average temperature of 82.6 degrees for September, Kelly said.
Besides heat, the city also broke a daily rainfall record.
On Saturday, Vero Beach had 1.28 inches of rain, beating the previous daily record of 0.8 inches from 2012, Kelly said. Temperature records for Vero Beach date back to November 1942.
