INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 15-year-old was detained after deputies said he pulled another student into a school bathroom before stealing the teenager’s chain.
Deputies arrested the teen, described as a student, on a charge of robbery by sudden snatching, reports show. It was unclear if the teen was taken to a juvenile detention center.
Vero Beach High School staff notified an Indian River County school resource deputy about an altercation that happened about noon Tuesday in the men’s bathroom. The incident took place between buildings seven and eight at the campus, located at 1707 16th Street, Vero Beach.
The victim told deputies he was speaking with several other juvenile males about selling his belt, reports show. Then, the victim was dragged by his belt into the bathroom and pushed into a stall, deputies said.
The victim said “take the chain,” reports show. When shown surveillance footage, the victim was able to identify the student who took his chain.
Two other witnesses also identified the student who snatched the jewelry, reports show. The student refused to speak with deputies.
Deputies arrested the student. No further details were available.
