Coming Up: Get keyed up for primo pianists at Riverside’s ‘Howl at the Moon’

Don’t miss the final September Howl at the Moon opportunity at Riverside Theatre. This weekend, Sept. 27-28, crazy-talented pianists Katie Pinder-Brown and Scott McGilvrey (plus a secret, skilled, special guest drummer) take the stage to ensure your farewell to September is a doozy.

At the Howl Experience, you, the audience, get to pick the tunes and try to stump the pianists. Like that’s going to happen. While the howling is happening inside, outside, under the oaks, it’s always Live in the Loop, with free live music, and all kinds of foodstuffs and beverages (full bar and grill; don’t BYO). Friday night’s music will be by everyone’s favorite five-piece jam band, Souljam, bringing original music and covers from bands such as the Allman Brothers, Tedeschi Trucks, Widespread Panic, Umphrey’s McGee, the Grateful Dead and Bill Withers. Saturday In the Loop, it’ll be the Beatle Guys, billed as the Treasure Coast’s premier Beatles tribute band. Times: Howl – 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Live on the Loop – 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tickets: Howl – side seats $12; table seating $16-$22. The Dr. Philips Center for the Performing Arts has some entertainment choices for you, starting this Friday, Sept. 27, in the Walt Disney Theatre: Make sure you’re an adult, then check out “Dane Cook: Tell It Like It Is” (which the stand-up comic Wikipedia describes as “prolific, charismatic, observational, often vulgar” certainly does).

The show promo notes Cook’s acerbic wit and “patented brand of provocative, on-fire comedic insight while exploring the hilarious aspects of everyday life and human behavior.” Time: 7:30 p.m. Tickets: start at $39.75. VIPs from $100.31. Saturday, Sept. 28, brings an entirely different entertainment opportunity – “Soul of Papua” – described by the theater promo as “a classical dance event lavished with tradition.”

Also Saturday, later in the evening, you can be a part of “Opening Night with Branford and Boléro,” launching the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2019-2020 season in the Bob Carr Theater.
