INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Deputies are searching for a person they said stabbed a man several times inside a home before fleeing overnight Sunday in south county.
Crime scene tape flapped in the wind and marked off the front yard of the residence Sunday while deputies collected evidence. A woman who appeared to know the occupants spoke with deputies at the scene.
The woman declined to comment to Vero News. A motive for the incident was unclear.
Indian River County deputies responded to reports of a stabbing about 4 a.m. Sunday at a home in the 2100 block of Sunrise Drive Southwest, sheriff’s spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said. Inside the residence, deputies found a man with multiple stab wounds.
The injured man was taken by ground to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Flowers said.
The man’s condition was not immediately available. K-9 deputies tracked an area where they believe the suspect, another man, fled on foot and got into a vehicle.

It was unclear how long sheriff’s crime scene units will remain at the scene.
Neighbor Wayde Douglas, who lives across the street, said he didn’t see or hear anything related to the stabbing. Douglas, who has lived in the tree-lined neighborhood for about six months, said the area is usually quiet.
Douglas, 27, said the stabbing just several feet away from his residence is “creepy.” Douglas said he did not know the people who lived in the home.
“The last thing I would want to see is a crime scene unit across the street,” Douglas said.
