Hundreds of volunteers braved the heat to participate in the 12th annual Treasure Coast Waterway Cleanup last Saturday morning at various sites along Indian River County’s waterways.
Similar efforts were underway in Martin and St. Lucie counties for the cleanup, hosted by the Marine Industries Association of the Treasure Coast, the Florida Inland Navigation District and local city and nonprofit partners.
Locally, participants picked up and recorded debris collected at the Riverside Park, Wabasso Causeway and Sebastian Main Street boat ramps as well as the Vero Beach and Sebastian Inlet Marinas.
In Indian River County last year, roughly 240 people bagged close to 2 tons of trash.
