John Edward Conefrey, Sr., 79, Vero Beach

John Edward Conefrey Sr., 79, passed away July 2, 2019, at his home in Vero Beach. John was born in Brockton, Mass., to John F. and Anne H. Conefrey.

John was a well-known commercial fisherman on Cape Cod. John also served on the Eastham Fire Dept.

After moving to Vero Beach from Cape Cod, John worked as Fire Chief of Indian River Shores. John also worked at IRMH for over 20 years with many of those years as the Assistant Supervisor of Engineering.

Most who knew John knew he had a deep love and passion for fishing.

He was always sharing his fishing stories and loved to take anyone who wanted to go. Fishing was his first true love.

John also worked for Communication International before retiring in 2008. He assisted the IRC Emergency Services with emergency communications via Amateur HAM Radio operations during hurricanes.

John is survived by his wife of 22 years Sharon “Sherry”; daughter, Lisa, of Sebastian; son, John, Jr. of Vero Beach; son, Kevin, of Tennessee; and sister, Anne (spouse, William) Sjobeck, of Tarpon Springs.

John was grandfather to Megan, Emily, and Sophia.

John is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; daughter, Wendy; and daughter, Joanne.

There will be no service as per his wishes.

George Elson Douglas, 77, Roseland

George Elson Douglas, 77, of Roseland, died July 3, 2019, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach. He was born in Meigs County, Ohio, and lived in Roseland, since 1979 coming from Ohio.

George worked for Local Union 189 in Columbus, Ohio, as a plumber having worked there since 1961 beginning at age 18.

George received his certificate and pin for being a Mason for 50 years in American Union Lodge 189 of the Grand Lodge of Ohio.

He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, #1767, Sebastian.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Edna E. Douglas; son, James Douglas (wife, Beverly), of Melbourne, Fla.; daughter, Janet Deyette (husband, Jeffrey), of Sebastian; stepdaughters, Debbie Carter, of Libby, Montana, Carol Frye, of Micco, Fla., and Rebecca Cain, of Mount Clemons, Mich.; stepsons, Edward Cain, Jr., of Tampa, Fla., Mike Cain, of Micco, Fla., and Scott Cain, of Micco, Fla.; brother, Derald Douglas; sisters, Barbara Currier and Betty; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Douglas; and brother, John Douglas.

Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to Noon on Tuesday, July 9, at Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian. A Celebration of his life will follow at Noon in the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Sebastian Cemetery, Sebastian.

Nels A. Liljedahl, Sebastian

Nels A. Liljedahl, of Sebastian, passed away peacefully at VNA Hospice House on July 2, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Manhattan and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Holgar and Edith Liljedahl.

Following graduation from Alexander Hamilton High School, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force.

He worked as a Customer Service Technician for the telephone Company in New York and retired from Lucent Technologies.

Nels was a member of the Boca Raton Coast Guard Auxiliary, the American Legion Post 189, and an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Greta (Pat) and Karen; granddaughter, Kaia; and stepsons, George, Erich and Steven Bertsche.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Joanne LaSalle Liljedahl.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church at 1 p.m., Sunday, July 14.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ the King Lutheran, 1301 Sebastian Boulevard, Sebastian, FL 32958, earmarked: “Mortgage Reduction Fund” or VNA Hospice House, 1111 36th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
