Horror: PSL mother arrested in killing of daughter, step-dad

A woman accused of killing her stepfather and her 8-year-old daughter and maiming her mother was arrested less than 12 hours after the incident with the quick response of the Port St. Lucie Police Department, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshall Taskforce.

The woman, identified as 29-year-old Alyssa Marie Torres, was apprehended in the 7300 block of S. Indian River Drive. She has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Torres’ mother identified Torres as the shooter, police said. She remains in an area hospital in stable condition.

“Alyssa Torres appears to have acted alone and there are no remaining suspects at large,” the police department said in its latest update on the case. No motive was immediately provided and the case remains under active investigation.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. Monday in the Waterleaf Townhome Apartments, located on SE Hillmoor Drive, Port St. Lucie. Authorities recovered Torres’ vehicle in the 7300 block of S. Indian River. A Ruger 300 LCP firearm was discovered in the vehicle and taken as evidence.
