INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A resident made a series of calls to 911 late Monday after she said she was held at gunpoint by three masked men with firearms during a home invasion, reports show.
No injuries were reported and no items were stolen, Indian River County sheriff’s spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said. The men, who fled before deputies arrived, still had not been identified late Tuesday.
Indian River County deputies responded to reports of a burglary about 10:30 p.m. Monday at a home on 22nd Avenue Southwest, reports show. The caller told dispatchers they were “several people outside the residence,” authorities said.
“Get someone here,” the caller told dispatchers, sheriff’s reports show. Residents on neighborhood groups described seeing police cars at the scene.
The caller told authorities three men, dressed in black and wearing red and white bandannas, backpacks and gloves, broke through the back door, reports show. The caller said her dog started “going crazy” and that her mom started to scream, authorities said.
The men had pistols and a “big gun with a strap,” reports show. The caller told dispatchers the men fled from the home, possibly in a silver Toyota or Honda, authorities said.
Sheriff’s K-9 units followed three sets of foot tracks along 17th Street Southwest, but were unable to find the men, reports show. Deputies recovered a magazine from a BB gun on the ground.
Flowers said there was no indication the victim knew the suspects. Detectives continue to investigate the incident.
