Corrections officer charged with DUI after ‘totaling’ another vehicle

SEBASTIAN — An Okeechobee Correctional Institution officer who deputies said crashed into and totaled another man’s sports utility vehicle, was arrested late Wednesday, deputies said.

The officer – identified as Sgt. Jason Juliano – told deputies, “You want to ruin my (expletive) life. I work for Florida Department of Corrections,” reports show. Juliano’s breath sample came back with results of a .203 and .200, more than twice the legal limit for alcohol, officials said.

Deputies arrested Juliano on a charge of driving under the influence. Public records exemptions prohibit the release of Juliano’s booking photo, age and address because he is a law enforcement officer.

FDOC officials confirmed Juliano works at the correctional institution in Okeechobee. Juliano was released Thursday from the Indian River County Jail on $1,000 bond.

Indian River County deputies responded to a two-vehicle wreck about midnight Wednesday at Bay Street and U.S. 1 in Sebastian. Deputies spoke with the driver of the red SUV, whose vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

The driver told deputies he was traveling northbound on U.S. 1 in the outside lane when he spotted headlights from another vehicle quickly approaching behind him. The other vehicle, a white Chevy pickup, drove from the inside lane into the outside lane and struck the rear driver’s side of the SUV, reports show.

Both vehicles pulled over on the shoulder. Then, Juliano got out of his pickup and yelled to the other driver, “Why the (expletive) did you crash into me?” reports show.

Deputies searched Juliano’s vehicle and found two open beer cans – a 32-ounce Miller High Life and a 32-ounce Budlight, authorities said.

Deputies arrested Juliano and took him to the county jail. A traffic citation shows Juliano’s license was suspended.

Details on if Juliano faced any disciplinary action at FDOC were not available. Juliano has an arraignment at 8:30 a.m. July 23, court records show.
