Boat capsizes in Sebastian Inlet; good samaritans bring 9 to shore

BREVARD COUNTY — Good samaritans on boats helped bring nine people to shore after their vessel capsized Thursday in the Sebastian Inlet, Brevard fire rescue crews said.

No injuries were reported in the incident, firefighters said.

The 23-foot long boat with several people aboard overturned about 4 p.m. Thursday in the inlet, near the 9700 block of Highway A1A in Melbourne Beach, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue crews and U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Brandon Murray. The vessel was less than half-a-mile offshore, Murray said.

Brevard County firefighters responded to the scene. Firefighters said good samaritans on three boats helped to bring nine people in the water to shore.

All nine people refused treatment, firefighters said. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission also responded to the scene, but was not immediately available for comment.
