The Indian River School Board on Tuesday unanimously approved a contract to pay Susan Moxley $161,000 to serve as the district’s Interim Superintendent for the next 6 to 12 months.
Moxley’s hiring was approved unanimously by the board during a special board meeting on Monday. Moxley’s hiring doesn’t become official until results of a drug screening and background check are completed. Those results are expected by the end of the week, board members said.
“She’s coming into the district with the support of the full board,” said Board Chairman Laura Zorc. “We’re all looking forward to working with her.”
Moxley was hired to temporarily replace Superintendent Mark Rendell, whose resignation takes effect May 24. Moxley will begin working at the district on May 20, and officially becomes Interim Superintendent on May 25.
Moxley, who is retired, served as an educator for 35 years, including superintendent of Lake County Schools in Central Florida from 2008 to 2017.
Moxley was one of 48 candidates who applied for the interim position.

The Indian River County School Board voted unanimously to hire Susan Moxley as the district’s interim superintendent during a special board meeting on Monday afternoon. The board is expected to approve Moxley’s contract during its Tuesday evening business meeting.
Terms of the contract already pre-approved by the board include an annual salary of $161,000 – the same salary paid to Superintendent Mark Rendell, who will officially step down on May 24.
Moxley is expected to serve as the interim superintendent for six to 12 months, which will give the board time to launch an extensive search for and hire a permanent superintendent.
If the contract is approved, Moxley will start May 20.
