PSL cops hunt burglary suspect

A burglar was caught on the home security camera of a St. Lucie West residence earlier this month, prompting the Port St. Lucie Police Department to seek the public’s help in identifying the man.

The burglary occurred in the 100 block of NW Bentley Circle, in the Lakes at St. Lucie West, on Friday, April 12, shortly before 8 p.m.

According to police, it is possible that this latest residential burglary is connected with a string of at least seven others that happened on the same day.

The suspect is described as being a black male with light complexion between the ages of 20 and 25. He has a thin build and short haircut and was seen wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt with what appears to be “ALASKA” on it. He was also wearing light-colored pants, sneakers and gloves. On the camera, he was seen holding a cellphone with a pink and black case.

Video surveillance taken from the NW Bentley Circle home shows the suspect entering and leaving the home quickly. Police say he smashed the rear sliding door in order to gain entry into the home and was startled and fled when the homeowner returned. In three of the other burglaries, a suspect vehicle was witnessed. Police believe it to be a silver or gray BMW sedan with dark tinted windows. The vehicle was seen with multiple occupants described as being black males and/or females.

The suspect license plate could be “JMJJ39” or “JMJ39J.”

The police department is asking that anyone with information about this or any of the other incidents contact Det. Saffomilla by calling 772-871-5247 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 800-273-TIPS (8477).
