VERO BEACH — A 60-year-old man was arrested after he pulled a pocket knife on three pub patrons and said he was going to “cut them up,” police said.
The man – identified as Thomas Potter – told the victims, “fight me, I’ll kill you,” reports show. Potter told officers the three victims had jumped him and stole his wallet at the Alibi Pub a few days earlier, reports show.
Dispatchers told police there were no reports of that incident.
Police arrested Potter, of Delmar Avenue, on three counts of aggravated assault. Potter was held Thursday at the Indian River County Jail on $15,000 bond.
Vero Beach police were already at the bar for an unrelated call about 10 p.m. Monday in the 2000 block of 11th Avenue. Officers were near the back door when the three victims told police someone had just pulled a knife on them, reports show.
The victims were standing by the front door earlier when Potter approached them with the knife pulled out and blade extended, authorities said. The victims picked up nearby tables to protect themselves against Potter.
Police found Potter and took his 6-inch pocket knife from his right front pants pocket, authorities said.
Officers arrested Potter and took him to the county jail. Potter has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. May 10, court records show.
