Traffic heavy from 4-car crash on Indian River Blvd

VERO BEACH — A four-car crash on Indian River Boulevard that left several people hurt caused delays Wednesday afternoon.

The wreck happened at 1:21 p.m. Wednesday on northbound Indian River Boulevard, just south of the Barber Bridge, Vero Beach police spokesman Officer Brad Kmetz said. Kmetz said some people were taken to hospitals; details on the hospitals, number of patients and their conditions were not immediately available.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m., the road was down to one lane from the Barber Bridge to Royal Palm Pointe. It was unclear when the lane would reopen.

Police told the public to avoid the area if possible.
