Police nab man for attempted break-in

A home in the gated PGA Verano community was the target of an attempted burglary, according to Port St. Lucie police.

The home, located on SW Nuova Way, was almost burglarized on Feb. 15 when the suspect tried opening the front door. The homeowner reported the attempt to police, telling authorities that the suspect was turning the door knob several times.

The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Joseph T. Rogers, was charged with attempted burglary and loitering/prowling and was taken to the St. Lucie County Jail. No one was injured and no property was taken or damaged during the attempted burglary.

According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department, the homeowner made contact with Rogers while police were en route. Rogers told the homeowner that he was looking for a friend, Taylor. When Rogers was told there was no one by that name at the house, Rogers took off.

He was seen jumping over the concrete wall in an attempt to exit the gated community and was spotted heading east onto SW Crosstown Parkway.

Authorities were able to catch up with Rogers at Interstate 95 and SW Crosstown Parkway, and took him into custody.
