A new job opening was posted by Cleveland Clinic Saturday in the New England Journal of Medicine career center: chief medical officer at Cleveland Clinic Akron General. That’s because Akron’s chief medical officer is coming to Vero Beach to lead the physicians at Cleveland Clinic Indian River.
Dr. David J. Peter, who has been at Akron since 1994, served as chief medical officer there since November 2015. He also served as medical director of Akron General Hospice and Visiting Nurse Services for the past 13 years. Peter is board certified in emergency medicine.
“He will be moving here and be onsite March 1,” said Dr. Greg Rosencrance, Indian River’s president, who announced what he said was his decision at the hospital’s board meeting last Tuesday.
“Dr. Peter was instrumental in Akron General’s integration with Cleveland Clinic, providing critical guidance to the health system throughout the process,” said Clinic officials in a statement. “Dr. Peter’s experience will be a tremendous asset for Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital as they embark upon their integration journey.”
Peter did his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Cincinnati following medical school there. He has a degree in biology from Thomas More College. He also earned an MBA from University of Massachusetts’s Amherst campus.
