Detective on leave; Cops probe alleges domestic violence

A Port St. Lucie Police detective is on unpaid administrative leave while authorities investigate a charge of domestic violence against him.

The agency arrested Paul Knowles, 43, for misdemeanor battery following an altercation between he and his wife on Jan. 21.

According to Port St. Lucie police, Knowles and his wife were engaged in a verbal altercation in the wee hours of Jan. 21 when it turned physical. Knowles is suspected of slapping his wife several times before punching her in the face.

His wife, who was not identified, suffered a cut to her lip and refused treatment at the scene, police said.

Det. Knowles was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail and was later released on $1,500 bond.
