In Memoriam: Dec. 15 -19

Shirley A. Chilberg, Vero Beach

Shirley A. Chilberg passed away peacefully on Dec. 5, 2018, and is now joined with John, her beloved husband of 68 years.

She was a lifelong Presbyterian, member of the Vero Beach Antique Study Club and a past Hospital Auxiliary volunteer.

Before retiring she was an award-winning Realtor in Lapeer, Mich. She was a devoted mother to son, Steve (Brenda) Chilberg, and daughter, Stephanie (Jeff) Austin.

She is also survived by three grandsons, five great-grandchildren, and her Yorkie, Hannah.

Shirley will be remembered for her love of family and friends and for her many acts of kindness and generosity.

A celebration of life will be held Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church 520 Royal Palm Blvd., Vero Beach.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Vero Beach High School music program or the First Presbyterian Church music program.

 

Diane S. Di Domenico, 68, Vero Beach

Diane S. Di Domenico, 68, died Dec. 11, 2018, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach after a brief illness. She was born in Bristol, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach since 2006 coming from New Jersey.

Diane worked for Hair Cuttery in Vero Beach as a cosmetologist for 12 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan A. Garabics, of Sebastian; son, Joseph Di Domenico, of Vero Beach; grandchildren, Stephen Garabics, Maria Garabics, Renee Garabics, Nicolas Garabics, Tiffany Di Domenico, Kayla Evans (Dylan); great-grandson, Maverick; sisters, Lorraine, Joanne, Trisha, Anna; and brothers, Eugene, John and Michael.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Doris Marozzi, and her brother, Frank Marozzi.

At the request of the family services will be held privately.

George P. Healy, Vero Beach

George P. Healy, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully on Dec. 10, 2018. He was born in Chicago and moved to Vero Beach in 2004 from Villa Park, Ill.

He served in the US Army Reserves for six years and had worked in the home improvement sales division of Sears for 35 years before retiring.

He was a faithful fan of the Chicago Cubs and was so elated to see them win the World Series in 2016.

George is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eileen (nee Droske) Healy; sons, Kevin (wife, Karen), Brian (wife, Vanessa); his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Ed (Mickey) Droske; sister-in-law, Kath (Tom) Bier; and brother-in-law, John (Mary) Droske; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Thomas and Mary (Furlong) Healy, and his parents-in-law, Edward and Mary (Byrnes) Droske, George was preceded in death by his siblings, Tom Pat (Bert) Healy, Marie (Red) Tamburino, Timothy Healy, Margie (Everett) Schroeder, Kathleen (Jim) Madden, Dan (Terry) Healy and Joe (Dolly) Healy.

No services are planned at this time.

 

Paul Juttner, 86, Vero Beach

Paul Juttner, 86, of Vero Beach, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018. He grew up in East Windsor, Conn., with mother Julia, father Kurt, sisters Irene and Betty, and brothers Robert and Tom.

Paul served in the Navy during the Korean War before settling in Enfield, then Manchester, Conn.

While in Manchester he was the town’s Director of Data Processing for many years where he was well respected and made many friends.

After retiring to Vero Beach he was an active member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church parish.

Paul was also a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Theresa (nee Jamieson); sons, Kyle and Eric (Kim); and three grandchildren.

We will all remember and miss his kindness, patience, and compassion for others.
Services were held at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, 500 Iris Lane. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Fort Pierce.
Memorial donations in memory of Paul may be made to the Holy Cross church.

 

Mary Patricia Kroll, 74, Vero Beach

Mary Patricia Kroll, 74, of Vero Beach, died unexpectedly Dec. 16, 2018, at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 21, 2018, at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 22, at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach.
Interment will be in Crestlawn Cemetery at a later date.

Daniel Fanshaw Poucher, 89, Vero Beach

Daniel Fanshaw Poucher, 89, of Vero Beach, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, after a long illness. Daniel was born Jan. 22, 1929, in Long Island, N.Y., to Edward and Thelma Poucher and grew up in Rockville Center, N.Y.

Dan later married Dorothy O’Brien in 1956 and they moved to Rhode Island, where their two daughters were born.

After working on the first nuclear submarine at Electric Boat, in Groton, Conn., Dan was approached by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in Virginia and was asked to bring his special carpentry skills to work for them.

The family moved to Williamsburg where they lived for over 20 years, in one of the 18th century restored homes in the Village. Dan restored fine 18th Century furniture, copied pieces for use in the historic buildings and in general, did all the things he loved to do and was so good at doing.

He said he never had a day that he didn’t want to go to work. Dan also did some 18th-century dance with a group his wife started.

Dan is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Vero Beach; his daughters, Kathleen Garcia and Elizabeth Marley, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; son-in-law, Mauricio Garcia, of Fort Lauderdale; as well as a foster son, Robert Braun, of W. Va.

Interment and Military Honors will be held at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Fla., on Friday, Dec. 28, at 2 p.m.

 

Roy Nelson Powell, 58, Vero Beach

Roy Nelson Powell, 58, of Vero Beach, passed on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018. Roy was born on June 15, 1960, in Columbus, Ohio, however he was a true Yooper, raised in Newberry, Mich., graduating from Newberry High School in 1978.

Roy married Mary Krivan Powell in 2004 and together they raised five kids, Tommy (Caitlin), Joey (Rachel), Christy, Bill, and Lindsay.

“Grandpa Goat” leaves as his legacy four grandchildren, Mason, Emma, Carter, and Wyatt. He also leaves to cherish his memory his mother Ramona Macphee, and four siblings: Robert (Cheryl), Rhonda (Kirk), Rebecca (Dan) and Joe (Sandy) as well as their children.

Roy was a Navy and Army veteran before becoming a mechanical engineer working in power plants.

He served during 9/11 on the Emergency Crisis Response Team, assigned to restoring the power on Wall Street. After retiring, he became a valued employee at Wal Mart.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 21, from 4-7 p.m., and the funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m. at Strunk Funeral Home, 916 17th Street Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Howard Corwin Schacht, 85, Vero Beach

Howard Corwin Schacht, 85, of Vero Beach, died Dec. 11, 2018, at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. Howard was born in Plainfield, N.J., and lived in Vero Beach for 68 years coming from Davidson, N.C.

He attended Episcopal High School in Maryland and graduated from Vero Beach High School, Class of 1951.

Howard was an electrician for many years, he work for local electrical contractors such as Patterson Electric and White Electric as well as at the Saint Lucie Nuclear Power Plant in Saint Lucie County.

Howard was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 323 which later became Local 728. An avid nature photographer, Howard was renowned for his knowledge of all things bird-related.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Jeannette Schacht; sons, Glenn Schacht, Dan Schacht (Crystal), Alan Schacht (Pam), David Schacht (Debbie) and Andy Schacht (Lisa), all of Indian River County; brother, Henry Fero Schacht, of Vero Beach; sister, Cynthia Schacht Fiorino, of Davie, Fla.; grandchildren, Clint, Josh, Angie, Jeremy, Michael, Kyle, Mark, Jonathan, Aaron, Corey, Jesse and Ryan; and six great- grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Gertrude Schacht, of Vero Beach.
