Police: Woman with knife strikes man after he declined sex

VERO BEACH — A 27-year-old woman suspected of striking a man several times in the face with a knife after he refused to have sexual relations with her, was arrested last Thursday.

The woman -identified as Katherine Nieves-Tavarez – told police the man already had a scar on his face when he came home, reports show.

Vero Beach police arrested Nieves-Tavarez, of the 1800 block of 40th Avenue, on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Nieves-Tavarez was being held Wednesday at the Indian River County Jail on $15,000 bond.

Officers responded to a disturbance about 3:30 a.m. Thursday at Nieves-Tavarez’ home. The woman answered the door with “blood on her clothing and hands,” reports show.

Police spoke with the woman’s boyfriend, who said Nieves-Tavarez was drinking alcohol earlier. Nieves-Tavarez asked the man to have sex multiple times, but he declined, reports show.

The woman then became angry, grabbed a kitchen knife and struck the man in the face, reports show. The man was taken to the Indian River Medical Center for treatment.

Officers searched the home and found the large silver knife with drops of blood on it, reports show. Police arrested Nieves-Tavarez and took her to the county jail.
