Louis V. Barrese, 83, Vero Beach

Louis V. Barrese, 83, of Vero Beach, passed away on Aug. 23, 2018. He was born in Port Chester, N.Y., on Sept. 10, 1934, to the late Santo and Antoinette (DiLorenzo) Barrese.

Louis attended Port Chester schools and served in the U.S. Army. Upon discharge, he attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

Early in his career he worked for Terrytoons as an animator and did animation on the Flintstones for Hanna Barbara. After that he was employed in painting and decorating until his retirement.

Louis is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Veronica (Masi) Barrese; his sons, Christopher, of Trumbull, Ct., and Louis A., of Vero Beach; and many nieces and nephews.

Lou enjoyed drawing, watching golf and football on TV, and good Italian food.

He is predeceased by his sisters, Jennie, Angelina, Rose; and brothers, Pat, Frank, Anthony and Joseph.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach.

 

Sally Ann Swider, 83, Vero Beach

Sally Ann (Jenco) Swider, 83, of Vero Beach, passed away Aug. 28, 2018. Born in Joliet, Ill., Mrs. Swider resided in West Orange, N.J., before moving to Sebastian 38 years ago. More recently, Mrs. Swider resided in Vero Beach.

She was a member of St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church in Sebastian and was a member of the Moose Lodge, also in Sebastian.

Survivors include her children, Susan (Gary) Metcalf, Peter (Cindy) Swider, David Powell, Sandie (Thomas-deceased)Vadas and Paul (Chrissy) Swider; and 11 grandchildren.

Mrs. Swider was predeceased by her first husband, Charles Emory Powell, in 1975 and by her second husband, Peter A. Swider, in 2013.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

 

Curtis Franklin Washington, 54, Sebastian

Curtis Franklin Washington, 54, died Aug. 23, 2018, at Sebastian River Medical Center. He was born and raised in Vero Beach and moved to Sebastian upon his marriage to Wendy Pechart.

Frankie owned and operated Frankie’s Lawn Service for over 15 years and enjoyed being an entrepreneur.

His favorite pastime was salt water fishing, something he tried to continue with even as his illness progressed.

Frankie was very proud of his daughter, Koryl, and enjoyed going to her cheerleading competitions and most recently seeing his freshman daughter cheer and march in the band for the first time as a Sebastian River High School Shark.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Wendy Washington; his daughter, Koryl Washington; and two sisters, Sharon Jenkins and Donna Washington; as well as their respective families.

To his nieces and nephews, Brooke, Amanda, Ashley, Josh, Caleb and Dustin, Frankie loved you dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Curtis and Louise Washington; as well as his father-in-law and longtime fishing buddy, Donald Pechart.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2, at Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian, followed by a Funeral Service at 2 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Todd Thomas of Sebastian Christian Church, officiating.
