INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Two neighbors under federal supervision – including a man once given a life sentence – found themselves in more trouble when authorities located drugs and firearms at their homes during a check, reports show.
Ivory Brinson, 67, and Troy Gerard Hurt, 51, were previously sentenced to prison for drug-related offenses, including intent to distribute more than 50 grams of cocaine, reports show. Federal authorities previously handed down a life sentence for Brinson, who was later released on clemency.
Prior to the latest arrest, Hurt was given 10 years of supervised release, reports show. The search of their homes by authorities was part of a probation check.
This week, Indian River County sheriff’s deputies arrested Brinson and Hurt, both of the 6100 block of 85th Street, on a variety of charges including possession of cocaine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Deputies assisted federal probation officers about 7 a.m. Wednesday in searching the homes of the suspects. Authorities seized crack cocaine, more than 50 grams of marijuana, a shotgun, AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, AK-47 assault rifle and a .38 Smith & Wesson round inside the men’s residences, reports show.
Deputies arrested Brinson and Hurt. The men remained at the county jail Friday; Hurt on $10,500 bond and Brinson on $5,500 bond.
Both men have arraignments at 8:30 a.m. August 29, court records show.
