INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 51-year-old man suspected of trying to ‘dump’ 260 grams of cocaine before being pulled over by deputies, was arrested last week, authorities said.

Deputies arrested Ramon Hernandez, of the 1800 block of 41st Avenue, on charges of trafficking cocaine, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and tampering with evidence. Hernandez was released Tuesday from the Indian River County Jail on $70,000 bond.

Deputies were already targeting Hernandez – who they said has an extensive history in narcotics charges – as part of a drug investigation.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop about 2:30 p.m. July 13 on a vehicle driving north on 41st Avenue. Deputies ordered the driver, later identified as Hernandez, out of the vehicle.

Deputies searched the vehicle and noticed a cup that contained a baggie inside.

Hernandez told deputies there was cocaine in the bag earlier, but he dumped it before being pulled over. The arrest report did not clarify where Hernandez dumped the narcotics.

Deputies retrieved the substance, which tested positive for cocaine, reports show. Deputies then went to Hernandez’ apartment and found more cocaine – nearly four grams.

Deputies arrested Hernandez and took him to the county jail. Hernandez has an arraignment at 8:30 a.m. August 15, court records show.
