A 32-year-old woman was arrested after a two-county chase that ended with her telling deputies, “the police kill people for no reason,” authorities said.
Deputies arrested Kenneda Monique Kirksey, of Alabama, on a charge of fleeing and eluding. Kirksey was released Monday from the Indian River County Jail on $2,500 bond.
A patrol deputy clocked a vehicle traveling 94 mph in a 70 mph zone about 11:40 p.m. June 13 near the 144 mile marker on Interstate 95. The deputy followed the vehicle and activated his siren and emergency lights.
The suspect’s vehicle slowed to 70 mph, continued south on I-95 and exited onto Indrio Road in St. Lucie County, reports show. The woman driving the vehicle, later identified as Kirksey, stopped under the I-95 bridge on Indrio Road.
When the deputy ordered Kirksey to shut off the vehicle, Kirksey refused and said she did not know the deputy. Kirksey then continued traveling east on Indrio Road, where she was stopped by a St. Lucie County patrol deputy at the Emerson Avenue and Indrio Road intersection.
Deputies spoke with Kirksey, who said that she did not stop for authorities because “she saw on the news that she should go to the nearest store if the police pulled her over because the police kill people for no reason,” reports show.
Deputies arrested Kirksey and took her to the county jail. Kirksey has an arraignment at 8:30 a.m. July 18, court records show.
