Republican Women of Indian River continue community support

Jacob Shaver, a student from Vero Beach Charter High School, accepted his scholarship check at RWIR’s June’s luncheon meeting held at Grand Harbor golf Club. Each year local seniors are asked to write about one of the Constitutional Amendments. Judy Davis, RWIR Scholarship Chairwoman said that she was very impressed with this year’s submissions and noted that most chose the Second Amendment to write about.

Jacob says he is going to attend Florida Atlantic University in the fall and will major in Criminal Justice. After college he intends to pursue a career in law enforcement. Jacob is one of three triplets and his parent are proud that all three of the children have solid plans for their futures.

Since 2004, the Republican Women of Indian River has given $1000 scholarships to local seniors who win the competition. These scholarships are awarded at the scholarship evening at their respective high schools. The RWIR chairperson of the scholarship committee or president of RWIR attends and presents the award.

The Club also gives a leadership award to a deserving student who has been proactive and shown leadership skills within the Republican party. In addition, RWIR is most proud of its tradition of purchasing and maintaining the American Flags that grace both bridges in Vero Beach during patriotic holidays.

Monthly meetings are held on the second Monday of the month at Grand Harbor Golf Club. The July meeting will be July23. Those interested in attending may contact Alla Kramer, 772-492-0184.
